The Exchange, Ilford will celebrate this Christmas by taking one of the oldest traditions and introducing a contemporary twist. From November 19th, Children can modernise mince pies with new and interesting fillings from the bizarre insects and honey to the more conventional apple paste! Situated in the atrium at the Exchange, Ilford, the Marvellous Mince Pie Manufactory, a pop-up mince pie workshop will invite visitors to create their own 'artisan' version of the institutional Christmas classic. The classic filling will be replaced with a range of interesting and innovative ingredients which children can pick and choose to create a delicious modern pie. Departing from tradition, younger visitors can have a go at putting their stamp on the history of the mince pie by making their own with some unique and bizarre flavour combinations. Those with experimental taste buds can opt for an insects and honey or a bubble gum filling; whilst those with a more conventional palette may like to opt for the chocolate spread and raspberry powder. Welcoming visitors to the Marvellous Mince Pie Manufactory will be Maximillion McMince, explorer extraordinaire, and Mrs Claus who will amuse with Christmas tales and lend a helping hand in the creation of the mince pies. Her assistant inside and outside the Manufactory will be Elf from the Elf & Safety department. Armed with clipboards and geeky Elf glasses, he will ensure that all the Claus's in the Christmas contract are ticked off ...
